HOLD YOUR HORSES! ANYONE FOR POLO SIR!
Ultimate Plant was awarded the contract to build a full size polo arena for an upcoming polo professional.
Works first of all started with a full site assessment to check levels and gradients where the arena is going to be constructed.
Upon our survey the ground was over a metre lower at the bottom end of the arena so after one or two calculations we worked our magic, and topsoil stripping commenced. I then started the cut & fill process, to the required depth i needed to make up for the low areas which needed bringing up to level. 2000ton+ of clay later was deposited, graded out in 200mm layers and compacted to get the full compaction i needed.
Next i installed 18 runs of drainage with a 5” fall over 50 metres on run all running into a natural ditch to take away the rain water.
With an added in herringbone design to catch the all important corners, all on grade, checked, then installation of a teram membrane was laid. Perforated drainage laid and backfilled with gravel. Sub base commenced of an imported natural Lincolnshire limestone, levelled within 5mm and compacted.
A recommended geotextile was then laid and top quality silica sand with fibres was being imported by the lorry load to be finessed and graded out.
The all important deadline was met for an enjoyable polo match.
